Lens Stars in Satin
This Lens Stars pattern was one of the first origami tessellations I ever (re)discovered on my own. I subsequently adapted it to fabric, which is what you see here! The fabric version gives the illusion of a continuous underlying weave, while the paper version is clearly offset. Look for 6-fold, 3-fold, and 2-fold rotational symmetries and imagine this pattern extending to infinity!
This piece is framed in an open, 2" deep shadow box with a built-in hanging mechanism on the back. The fabric tessellation within was made from a single sheet of fabric, and stitched into shape by hand.
This is a one-of-a-kind original piece by Gathering Folds and was made in 2020.
Hang this piece out of direct sunlight to maintain the vibrant color of the fabric, and enjoy!
